Book Review | The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

Though the Greek and Roman crew members of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen—all of them—and they’re stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood—the blood of Olympus—in order to wake.

The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it “might” be able to stop a war between the two camps.

The Athena Parthenos will go west; the Argo II will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea’s army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.

First of all, I would like to thank the author for making me fangirl over the book. Second, thank him for the awesome Hunger Games reference he did! That reference got me laughing non-stop for 3 minutes.

(If you haven’t notice it it’s in Page 112 Leo’s POV)

I got this book, as a birthday gift from my grandma last November, and I put it on hold since I have been bombardized with all the good stuff via the spoilings of my fellow demigod at twitter, tumblr and real life. It hurt when they told me that there was no Percy POV in the book.

(What are you smiling about Rick?)

It was as usual funny, sarcastic and epic. It was no problem there. But I wouldn’t say that this is a great book to end an amazing series.

  • The Characters

The characters are the selling point of this series and even the Percy Jackson books. We grew up loving Percy, we have found something with Leo, we evolve to loving Nico accepting who he is, we want to be the big trio of Reyna, Annabeth & Piper. (Note: I was not charmspeaked to say this words)

Probably my fave character in the book was Nico, he was a naive young boy back in the Titan’s curse. He had changed so much in a series, he had accepted who he was, find a home finally at Camp Half-Blood. (How long was I wishing that this would happen?) and he got Will.

Let’s not forgot on the funny scenes:

  1. Butter Popcorn War Sponsored by Nike
  2. Kym Who? (Not the Kardashian)
  3. Zeus: I am gonna Slap you
  4. The Doctor is In

This is the basic request, “It needs a dash of Percy”. Don’t we all want that?

Another thing, was how it was wrap up. It was not messy thought, but it happened to fast.

But for me, it was just another window for a new spin-off staring Leo and maybe the  some of the old gang since Percy was intending to go to college with Annabeth at New Rome.

5 Hodor Heads!
